More than ten years have passed since Apple introduced the original Apple TV. The fifth model, fittingly dubbed the Apple TV 4K, which supports 4K/High Dynamic Range was unveiled by Apple this year alongside the new iPhones.
– Video Formats: HD/4K Dolby Vision & HDR10 – Audio Formats: Dolby Digital 5.1/Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 surround sound – Chipset: Apple A10X Fusion chip with 64-bit architecture – Memory: 3GB RAM & 32GB or 64GB of storage capacities – Connectivity: 802.11ac W-iFi with MIMO; simultaneous dual band (2.4GHz and 5GHz), Gigabit Ethernet and Bluetooth 5.0 – Remote: Slightly redesigned Siri remote
– Expensive – Remote still ergonomically flawed – Apple controlled eco-system means this is not for everyone – No Dolby Atmos – No 4K Youtube – For now Amazon Prime non UHD content is Stereo only
With a few changes, the new Apple TV 4K maintains the same design ethos established by Apple over earlier generations. The puck is still the same size as a black beer coaster, measuring 98 mm wide and 98 mm high.
There are no features on the front of the device when it is shut off or asleep. When the ATV 4K is awake, it emits a constant white LED light that shines through the black plastic. To signal that it has received a remote control command, the light will flash.
